Terminology used in the Learning and Teaching Hub

- AFL
- Assessment for learning. Shifts the focus from assessment as something that happens at the end of a learning cycle to instead seeing it as an essential element of everyday teaching and learning practice where both teachers and students are active in examining where learning is at, where it needs to go, and how best to get there.
- AR
- Augmented reality, where digital information can be overlaid with a person’s environment in real time.
- ARS
- Audience response system. An alternative name for polling software, such as Mentimeter. Also, can be referred to as EVS (electronic voting system).

- Bath Blend Baseline
- The Bath Blend Baseline is an easy-to-follow framework that you can use to design and improve the digital learning experience of your students. Divided into four key areas (consistency, accessibility, scaffolding and engagement) the framework builds on accepted good practice from across the digital learning sector.
- Bath Blend Baseline Checklist
- A list of activities that will promote effective blended teaching practices.
- Bath Blend Baseline Handbook
- A resource with practical tips and advice for those working to meet the standards set in the Bath Blend Baseline.

- CAD
- Curriculum and Academic Development. A team within the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT).
- CASE model
- Consistency, accessibility, scaffolding and engagement. The Bath Blend teaching framework to support effective blended teaching.
- CLT
- Centre for Learning & Teaching
- CLT PDP
- The Centre for Learning & Teaching’s Professional Development Programme. This is the overarching term for staff development opportunities provided by the CLT.

- DAP
- Digital access plan.
- Digital Accessibility
- The provision of digital content that meets the access needs of all students.
M
- Mahara
- The University’s chosen digital portfolio (or e-portfolio) tool where students can curate a variety of portfolio content.
- Moodle
- The University’s chosen virtual learning environment (VLE).
P
- Panopto
- Panopto is the university’s lecture capture and media storage tool. Pre-2004 it was also referred to as Re:View.
- Pathways (formerly Pathways)
- Pathways refers to the Pathway to Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship. This is a professional development programme for teaching and teaching support staff, resulting in fellowship at Associate, Fellow, Senior or Principal level.

- SAMIS
- Student applicant management information system, the sytem used to store student data and used to enrol students into relevant Moodle spaces. Moodle can also send assessment data directly to SAMIS.
- SE
- Student engagement. A team within the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT).
T
- TDF
- Teaching development fund. Funds awarding by university committee for teaching development activities.
- TEL
- Technology enhanced learning. A team within the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT).
V
- VIP
- Vertically integrated projects. Innovative research-based projects that enable students and staff to collaborate on long-term real-world issues.
- VLE
- Virtual learning environment. A website designed for education, that provides online space for information, learning activities and communication.

- WCAG
- Web content accessibility guidelines, an external framework of accessibility standards.
