Inclusive assessment
The University aims to ensure that assessment at Bath is designed to accommodate diverse student needs. This involves providing accessible materials and clear guidance, as well as anticipating student needs and providing reasonable adjustments where necessary.
Where are we now
- The University’s Inclusive Education project outlines how this area is developing. An early outcome of this is more guidance for staff around taking an anticipatory approach to reasonable adjustments. This supplements existing guidance in which we encourage staff to remove, reduce and rethink barriers for learners.
- Oral assessments and groupwork cause particular anxiety in students so we have produced specific guidance to support in this area (see ‘how to’ section below). The Groupwork Handbook is an essential resource for getting started in this assessment area.
- Clear communication helps to support accessibility, so you may also be interested in our structured assessment brief templates, although please note that from AY26-27 the Faculties/School are likely to have their own range of templates you are expected to use.
