Setting up in-person Inspera exams using Safe Exam Browser (SEB)

In-Person Inspera Exams in PC Labs

In-Person Inspera Exams in PC Labs make use of Safe Exam Browser (SEB). These should be set up like other Inspera exams following the guidance on the Administering Exams on Inspera article with the following differences:

Late Submission

Disable late submissions.

There will be no primary submission deadline, the end time should be the exact end time.

Test information

Please use the appropriate in-person Inspera exam instruction sheet provided by Academic Registry. This should replace any remote Inspera exam instruction sheet.

Options > Security

Enable Safe Exam Browser for PC and Mac

Leave the Invigilator password and SEB password (under Advanced options) as randomly generated.

BUT please ensure that if you have multiple occurrences e.g. BA10123-A and BA10123-AV that they both have the same Invigilator password and the same SEB password. Pick one of the occurrences and copy those passwords to the other. So that, for example, both have the invigilator password 69ace and the SEB password kx8949. (Do not use these example passwords)

Options > Exam Day

The Lost Connection Alert text should be replaced with

Local network issue. If this persists, please contact an invigilator in the room.

Add Invigilators

Invigilators are added in the same way as adding additional Graders. Most staff do not currently have the Invigilator role. Please email inspera-support@bath.ac.uk with a complete list of users who need the Invigilator role in advance. All Invigilators should be added as the “Invigilator” role, not the “Chief Invigilator” role.

Exempting students from SEB

If a student has a DAP that requires that they do not use Safe Exam Browser, you will be informed by the Exams Office. However, the Exams Office will apply any exemptions centrally. Students who are exempt from Safe Exam Browser are indicated by an unlocked padlock icon in the candidate list. This is irreversible.
