PedR Network – Teaching Conversations with Cake: Session Coursework less susceptible to Generative AI?

The Pedagogical Research (PedR) Group aims to promote, support and develop pedagogical research activity across the University. The benefits of a well-established PedR community include the development and embedding of an evidence informed approach to teaching and learning practice and an enhanced reputation for high quality scholarly activity.

Join us for the refreshed “Conversations with Cake” session’s. This session will focus on Coursework less susceptible to Generative AI?  led by Professor James Davenport, Department of Computer Science

Though the problem occurs everywhere, having course work that is a major proportion of the unit marks (100% on online MSc) really raises the question “Is this the student’s own work”. “Contract cheating” (paying someone to do your coursework) has always existed, but has been expensive, difficult and morally pretty obvious. Given the ubiquity of AI tools (Google’s AI summaries, for example) and the fuzzy boundary with “grammar checkers” etc., the problem is much more acute. The speaker will outline his experiences with trying (and occasionally failing) to set coursework that is “AI-proof” in computer science, notably cybersecurity.

Refreshments and cakes will be available, please bring your own cups and you are welcome to bring lunch.
