Considering how we implement Reasonable Adjustments- consultation with academic colleagues – 2
The University is currently undertaking a review of its processes and approach to inclusive teaching and learning. As part of this review, we are considering how we implement Reasonable Adjustments for students with additional support needs. Currently, students with DAPs (Disability Access Plans) are entitled to Reasonable Adjustments in line with the Equality Act. As there are a number of commonly requested Reasonable Adjustments (e.g. notes in advance, recording of lectures), we are going to consider mainstreaming some of these key adjustments in order to make our provision more inclusive and reduce the need for staff to make individual adjustments.
We are planning to hold a consultation with academic colleagues on this and would like to invite staff to attend a one-hour online meeting to gather your views. We would particularly like to hear from those colleagues who may have already put this approach into practice, embedding certain adjustments for all students in a way that provides anticipatory support, as well as colleagues who are interested in embedding inclusive teaching and assessment in a way that is practical and sustainable for busy academics.
