08 – Curriculum Change and Innovation

Target Audience: Mandatory and only available to Lecturers on academic probation.

Session Information

How and why do we go about changing the content, assessment, and teaching and learning approaches on courses we teach? To what extent can we innovate and what is important to consider when planning changes?

This session introduces curriculum change and innovation at Bath. Through activity and discussion you will be encouraged to reflect on your teaching context and the opportunities available for change and innovation. We will consider how data, such as from student feedback, and other relevant internal and external reference points can help inform out decision-making.

Learning Outcomes

1. Recognise and apply University of Bath curriculum principles, approval processes and requirements, alongside relevant internal and external frameworks and other requirements to curriculum change scenarios in your context.
2. Appraise and discuss example data to explore the potential for change and innovation within units.
3. Reflect on your experiences of curriculum change in HE to identify where opportunities and responsibilities exist during change processes.

Preparatory work or pre-session expectations

Bring an example of a teaching session’s learning outcome and consider how your teaching practice is effective in meeting it.
