CLT EduTalks – TDF: Industrial Integration
Join Debbie Janson, Department of Mechanical Engineering who will be presenting on the outcomes of her TDF Project ‘Industrial Integration’.
This talk reflects on the value of industry-immersive learning through a TD-funded visit to the MINI manufacturing facility in Oxford, with around 45 PGT students from Engineering Business Management and Innovation & Technology Management cohorts. For many students, this visit represents their only direct exposure to a live manufacturing environment, bringing to life theoretical content around operations, digitalisation, lean systems and organisational decision-making.
The talk will reflect on how bringing learning to life in this way enhances understanding, and raises the quality of classroom discussion and assessment. We will also explore the often under-recognised employability impact of shared industrial experiences, including how such visits give students credible, concrete examples to draw on in interviews and professional conversations, alongside the importance of equitable access to such events.
The idea stemmed from consistent student feedback via SSLCs and Student Rep meetings, highlighting a strong desire for factory visits.
Refreshments will be provided, please bring your keep cup 🙂
