Talk TDF: Tutorial team-based learning for enhanced engagement and feedback – Dr Alexander Lunt

Wednesday 9 December,  11:00 – 11:30

Join us for the second of our mini-Talk TDF events, where we catch up with Dr Alexander Lunt, project leader for the 2019/20-funded TDF project, ‘Tutorial team-based learning for enhanced engagement and feedback’. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask Alex questions about the progress of his project so far, his TDF experience, and any challenges he’s faced in the light of the current Covid-19 situation.

About the project

Across the university, poor student engagement is a reoccurring concern within tutorial teaching. Whilst the conventional style of problem sheet working and free discussion is useful for material clarification, low attendance means that this can be a significant waste of teaching resource. In order to address this issue, this project aims to make use of team-based learning; a powerful teaching method which is known to significantly enhance student interaction and engagement. An initial trial of the approach will be implemented within the first-year solid mechanics tutorials in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (class size of 380).
