Event Details
This course is highly recommended for all staff who teach, deliver seminars, or wish to gain more confidence in presenting their research
Whether face to face or during an online seminar, presenting can be a daunting prospect for many and the issues are often surprisingly similar. Creating a connection with the audience, dealing with technical issues and dealing with the unexpected are common in either setting as is the impact these issues can have on a presenter’s level of confidence and ability to engage. By exploring the component parts of communication that are present in a presentation, this interactive session will equip you with a greater understanding of the natural resources that are available to you as a presenter as well has how to shape and deploy them effectively. Although the session cannot address specific issues relating to the content of academic presentations, it will provide a range of ideas, exercises and frameworks that will allow attendees to create a personalised, rather than standardised, approach towards presenting.
The session aim to help participants:
- understand the power of their own personal style
- understand that a set of behaviours, once identified, can be developed, refined and rehearsed to underpin and drive a presentation
- feel able and prepared to commit to developing their presenting ability
This workshop will be delivered on Zoom. A url will be sent in a calendar invite 5 working days in advance.
