Reaxys is a database for chemistry and chemistry-related subjects, similar to SciFinder. It provides an index to journal articles, patents and chemical data. It is less comprehensive than SciFinder for topic searching, but it is extremely useful for finding chemical and physical property data.  We will begin with topic searching and how to set up a search alert. We’ll then look at finding property data using chemical name and molecular formula. You will learn how to use the Reaxys drawing tool and how to search for structures, substructures and reactions.  Finally we’ll take a quick look at Reaxys Medicinal Chemistry.  The session will take place in a PC lab, giving you the opportunity to work through some examples searches.

After this workshop you will:

  • be able to do a topic search in Reaxys and set up a search alert
  • be able to make effective use of Reaxys to find chemical property data
  • know how to search for inorganic compounds with varying elemental compositions
  • be able to use the Marvin JS structure editor to draw and search for structures, substructures and reactions
  • know how to switch to the ChemDraw structure editor
  • have some knowledge of the information provided by Reaxys Medicinal Chemistry
