Highly recommended for: early career researchers in the Social Sciences who would like to learn how to plan and write a high quality research paper
If you are a postgraduate student, please book onto this course here.
Writing a research paper is often called the ‘gold standard’ of academic publishing – and the better the quality of your paper, the greater its contribution to building your career and creating impact in the wider world. But starting to write research papers early in your academic career can seem like a formidable challenge.
This workshop aims to make that process easier. Reporting your research as a publishable paper involves ‘packaging’ your research in a form that is enticing to publishers, reviewers and ultimately, to your target readers. This workshop considers how to do that. It will offer tools and techniques to help you plan and carry out the writing of a paper. The workshop will also help demystify publishing and peer review processes with the overall intent of increasing your chances of being published successfully.
By the end of the workshop you should be able, or better able, to:
- choose a journal for your publication, matched to your interests and aspirations
- write a research article in an appropriate style, well matched to journal, type of article, purpose and audience
- devise an appropriate title for your article and write an enticing abstract
- engage with the publication process to meet publisher’s expectations
- handle feedback constructively
