Embracing cultural differences and building successful working relationships.

UK universities are a highly coveted choice for overseas students and staff. This provides the opportunity to celebrate the cultural diversity of staff and students and learn from each other. The cultural differences also provide challenges for both staff and students, which could compromise the working relationship and ultimately the academic outcome.

In this workshop we will look at some of the key challenges you might need to overcome when supervising students from cultural and language backgrounds different to yours.

We will explore the practical steps and changes you can implement in term of your supervision to enable better working relationship with your students.  Together we will discuss ideas and share experiences on how to support students to embrace into the UK HE culture and its norms, to manage student expectations and explore solutions to perceived challenges.

*Please note that there won’t be any catering provided at this workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own tea/coffee/drink along*
