This introductory course aims to give staff members advice on setting up and using social media to support their work.

This is a foundation level course aimed at staff wanting an introductory guide to using social media. Led by Tom Mason, the University’s Social Media Manager in the Department of Marketing & Communications, the session will provide attendees with a beginner’s guide to using sites like Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube to support their work at the University.

These sessions will focus on equipping staff with the expertise and confidence to use social media to support their work. It will offer actionable social media skills which staff can apply to their roles.

This session will introduce staff to a variety of online platforms with tutorials on how to publish content. Colleagues will learn how to use social media sites to engage with their relevant audiences and be confident in their online interactions.

Objectives for the day

By the end of the session, you will be aware of:

  • An understanding of what social media platforms are available and how to set up a profile
  • Knowledge of how to use different social media platforms
  • An understanding of the time required to manage social media
  • The confidence to use social media
  • An awareness of the support for social media available from the University

Who should attend this course

Academic, research, administrative, clerical and technical staff interested in exploring how they might use social media to support their work but unsure of how to begin.
